A different way to know the world
Farflung is a geography quiz in which several countries can satisfy a clue. You choose one; a less obvious correct answer earns more distance. The original game is published by Farflung LLC. This page offers a separate, free Farflung practice game with its own question bank.
Choose Daily for five shared clues, or Unlimited for a new selection. Daily changes at 00:00 UTC in this edition.
Read the clue, then tap a country or search by name. Selecting a country does not submit your answer.
Press Drop Pin to confirm. Read the explanation, then move to the next clue. Finish all five to see and share your score.

These are fixed editorial tiers in this edition, not live player statistics. A miss earns 0 km. Five correct Farflung answers earn 500 km. Distance is a score, not a measurement between pins.
Look beyond the obvious
Learn the geographic connection, not just a country name. These examples explain useful patterns; they are not today’s official answers.
Lesotho highlighted within southern Africa.
Landlocked is not enclosed
Lesotho is entirely surrounded by South Africa. Eswatini is also landlocked, but borders both South Africa and Mozambique. For an “enclave” clue, the number of neighbours matters; for “landlocked”, the absence of a sea coast matters.
Guatemala highlighted on the Central American isthmus.
A small coast still counts
Guatemala reaches the Pacific to the south and the Caribbean to the east. The Caribbean connects to the Atlantic. When a clue includes marginal seas, a short Caribbean coast can make a country a valid two-ocean answer. Always read the clue’s scope.
Luxembourg highlighted between Belgium, France and Germany.
Languages cross borders
Luxembourg is a neighbour of Germany and uses Luxembourgish, French and German in administration. A language clue asks about legal status, not the language most people speak at home. Check the wording before treating every widely spoken language as official.
Timor-Leste highlighted in maritime Southeast Asia.
Portuguese beyond Europe
Timor-Leste has Portuguese and Tetum as official languages. Thinking across continents helps with language clues: start with the familiar countries, then recall the historical links that connect distant places. Do not confuse Timor-Leste with the whole island of Timor.
The bank contains 920 source-backed clues. Daily play covers five topic families, with no exact clue repeated in a 184-day cycle. Countries and question patterns can recur. The cycle then repeats; practice uses the same finite bank.
Why do statistical clues include a year?
They use a frozen World Bank reference year (2024), not live estimates. Land area excludes inland water, forest cover is a share of land area, and urban share uses national definitions. Missing values are excluded.
Is this the official Farflung game?
No. This is an independent practice edition from GeoGuesser.org. Farflung LLC publishes the original at farflung.game. Our clues, tiers, timers and daily reset are separate.
Can I play Farflung on a phone or without a timer?
Yes. Tap the map or use country search to reach small countries. Untimed play is the default. Choose 45 or 20 seconds if you want a timed round; the clock starts only after you press Start timer.
Are these the official Farflung daily answers?
No. The field guide and game use this site’s own question bank. They do not reveal or reproduce today’s official expedition.
When does Daily reset, and is my progress saved?
This edition selects five clues by the UTC date and changes at 00:00 UTC. Completed Daily results are stored in this browser if local storage is available. An unfinished game is not saved. Unlimited is available for more practice.
Does a rarer country always earn more?
Only a correct answer earns distance. Each prompt assigns its own editorial tiers. A country can have a different tier on another clue; these tiers do not measure the choices of live players.

Sources
Questions use frozen UN M49, UN membership, UNESCO and World Bank data. Reference years are stated in statistical clues. The field notes cite their own primary sources. Map outlines use simplified Natural Earth data (public domain).
Small islands may need country search. Outlines are for learning and do not determine sovereignty.
Corrections
The bank is compiled from frozen primary-source facts and reproducible rules. Sources appear after each answer; errors can still be reported for correction.
